Don't apologize for your career change. Frame it as an asset.
Weak framing:
"I don't have as much experience as other candidates..."
"I'm still learning, so I might not be as fast..."
Strong framing:
"My background in [field] taught me [skill] that directly applies here."
"I bring a different perspective since I've worked directly with [users/customers/stakeholders]."
Key messages:
- You chose this deliberately, not as a fallback
- You learn quickly (and have evidence)
- You bring unique skills
- You're committed long-term
Your interviewer wants to know you're serious about tech, not running from something.
