Layoffs are common. How you present it matters.
What to avoid:
- Sounding bitter about your previous employer
- Framing tech as a fallback
- Appearing desperate for any job
What to say:
"The layoff gave me the opportunity to pursue something I'd been considering for a while. I've been learning to code and decided this was the right moment to make the switch."
Show intentionality:
- Highlight learning you did before or during the transition
- Discuss specific aspects of tech that attract you
- Have a clear vision for your career path
Employers want to hire people who chose tech, not people who had no other option.
