RIP has several limitations that make it unsuitable for large networks:
-hop maximum. Any network more than hops away is unreachable. Large enterprise networks easily exceed this.
Hop count ignores bandwidth. A -hop path through Gbps links has the same metric as hops through Mbps links.
Slow convergence. With -second updates and holddown timers, convergence can take minutes.
Full table updates. Every seconds, routers send their entire routing table, wasting bandwidth.
Use RIP only for small test networks or legacy equipment.
