Convergence time is how long the network takes to stabilize after a failure. During convergence, traffic may be dropped or misrouted.
Typical convergence times:
- Spanning Tree (STP): - seconds
- Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP): - seconds
- HSRP/VRRP default timers: seconds
- HSRP/VRRP tuned timers: seconds
- BFD: - milliseconds
- LACP: - seconds
Faster is not always better. Aggressive timers can cause flapping. Balance speed against stability.
