Full duplex means both devices can send and receive simultaneously. Like a phone call. No collisions are possible because transmit and receive use separate wire pairs. A Gbps full duplex link gives you Gbps in each direction. CSMA/CD is disabled in full duplex mode. Modern switches and NICs default to full duplex. This doubles your effective bandwidth.
