Here are my recommendations for redundant Layer designs. Always configure a root bridge deliberately. Don't let the election happen by accident. Use RSTP instead of classic STP for faster convergence. Enable BPDU Guard on edge ports to catch rogue switches. Use LACP for link aggregation to prevent misconfiguration loops. Keep your Layer domain small. Limit VLANs that span multiple buildings. The larger your STP domain, the bigger the blast radius when something goes wrong.
