You create a VLAN by assigning it an ID and optionally a descriptive name. Names like HR, Engineering, or Guest-WiFi help administrators understand the VLAN's purpose. VLANs exist in the switch's local database. If you create VLAN on one switch, you must create it on every switch that needs to carry that VLAN's traffic. Otherwise, traffic gets dropped.
