The native VLAN is the VLAN whose traffic travels untagged on a trunk. By default, this is VLAN . When a switch receives an untagged frame on a trunk port, it assigns that frame to the native VLAN. When sending frames from the native VLAN out a trunk, the switch does not add a tag. This allows legacy devices that don't understand tagging to communicate.
