VTP has three modes. Server mode creates and deletes VLANs. Client mode receives updates but cannot modify VLANs locally. Transparent mode ignores VTP but forwards messages. The danger: VTP uses revision numbers. If you connect a switch with a higher revision number, it overwrites all other switches. A test switch with revision can delete production VLANs when plugged into your network.
