VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) propagates VLAN information across switches. When you create a VLAN on a VTP server, it advertises the change to all switches in the VTP domain. Sounds convenient. In practice, VTP is dangerous. A misconfigured switch can wipe out your entire VLAN database. Many network engineers disable VTP and manage VLANs manually on each switch.
