Roaming occurs when a client switches from one access point to another. The client makes this decision based on signal strength. When your current AP signal drops below a threshold (typically dBm), the client scans for better options. During the switch, there is a brief disconnection while authentication completes. Applications using TCP recover automatically, but real-time services like VoIP may experience audio gaps if roaming takes too long.
