The SSID (Service Set Identifier) is the network name you see when scanning for Wi-Fi. It can be up to characters and is case-sensitive. Access points broadcast their SSID in beacon frames every milliseconds by default. You can disable SSID broadcast for a hidden network, but this provides no real security. Devices must still transmit the SSID when connecting, which anyone monitoring wireless traffic can capture.
