WebSockets are long-lived connections requiring special handling. The initial HTTP upgrade must reach the same backend throughout the session.
Use sticky sessions (IP hash or cookie-based). Enable connection timeout extensions. Monitor connection counts carefully since WebSockets don't naturally distribute evenly.
