Microsoft published the Copilot Fall Release Oct 23, 2025; claiming that this release shifts AI towards an ***"AI Companion" ***that helps people and doesn't replace them.
The update includes 12 new features.
AI That Connects Us
- **Groups: **
- This feature turns Copilot into a shared experience for up to 32 people. It allows real-time collaboration for brainstorming, co-writing, and planning, with Copilot summarizing threads, proposing options, and splitting tasks.
- Imagine:
- A collaborative space where users can browse, explore, and remix AI-generated ideas and creations.
Personalized to You!
- Mico:
- An optional, expressive visual character for Copilot. Mico reacts, listens, and changes colors during interactions to make voice conversations feel more natural and engaging.
- Real-talk:
- A new style called "Real-talk" is introduced which offers a collaborative model that respectfully challenges assumptions and adapts to the user's "vibe" to spark growth.
- **Deeper Memory: **
- Copilot now has Memory & Personalization, allowing it to remember important information. It can be asked to store important information which may be referred to in the future. Moreover, it also has the ability to continue past conversations without the user repeating everything.
- Connectors:
- Copilot can now link to services like OneDrive, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar, enabling users to search for documents, emails, and events across these platforms using natural language. It makes sure that user remains in control of what's accessed by requiring explicit consent before any data access.
- Proactive Actions:
- In Deep Research, Copilot can proactively surface insights and suggest next steps based on a user's recent activity or research.
Empowering Health, Learning, and Well-being:
- Copilot for health:
- Addressing one of the most common user needs, Copilot has improved by grounding responses in credible sources like Harvard Health. It also helps users find doctors based on location, specialty and language.
- Learn Live:
- This transforms Copilot into a voice-enabled "Socratic tutor" that guides users through concepts using questions and visual cues rather than just providing answers.
Integration into Edge and Windows:
- Copilot Mode in Edge:
- This innovation aims to transform Microsoft Edge into an *"AI-Browser" *where Copilot can see and reason over your open tabs. It can compare information and even take **actions **such as booking a hotel or filling out forms.
- Journeys:
- Another extension of the *"AI-Browser" *target, this organizes past browsing into meaningful story lines making it easier for users to revisit them in the future and resume them right away!
- Copilot on Windows:
- This update aims to turn Windows 11 PCs into "AI PCs." It includes a new wake word ("Hey Copilot"), a new Copilot home to resume tasks, and Copilot Vision to guide users through tasks in real time.
There have been other minor enhancements as well such as **Pages **supporting up to 10 files at a time and Copilot Search
Overall, Microsoft's Fall Copilot Release is a good step towards an **"AI Companion" **by bringing together collaboration (Groups, Imagine), deeper personalization (Mico, Real-talk, Memory, Connectors), proactive research tools, specialized help for health and learning, and tighter integration into Edge and Windows. Together these features aim to make AI more connected, more useful, and more controllable which lets Copilot work alongside users across devices and apps while keeping users in charge of their data and consent.
