Simplifying Fractions

GCD application

To reduce a fraction a/b to lowest terms, divide both numerator and denominator by gcd(a, b).

Example: 48/18. gcd(48, 18) = 6. Divide both by 6: 48/6 = 8, 18/6 = 3. Simplified fraction is 8/3.

This guarantees the numerator and denominator have no common factors other than 1.
