OpenClaw connects to WhatsApp through Baileys, an open-source library that speaks the WhatsApp Web protocol.

Run the pairing command:

openclaw platform add whatsapp

A QR code appears in your terminal. Open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Linked Devices, and scan the code. The session syncs within a few seconds.

One piece of advice: use a dedicated phone number for your assistant, not your personal one. Why? If WhatsApp detects unusual activity on your account, the consequences fall on that number alone. The next unit covers those risks in detail.
