Here's a fun bit of history for you. Steinberger originally called the project Clawdbot, a play on the Claude model that powered it. Anthropic noticed and sent a polite trademark notice.
He renamed it to Moltbot, but that name lasted only days. Scammers launched a fake Clawdbot token on Solana that briefly hit eight figures before collapsing. On top of that, Steinberger said the name "never quite rolled off the tongue." So the community ran a GitHub poll with over K votes. The winner, as you now know: OpenClaw. "Claw" nods to the original name while "Open" signals its community-owned future.
