Pick a project where you drove the technical direction, not just executed it. The best deep-dive projects have clear before-and-after states, measurable impact, and moments where you changed course based on new information.
Avoid projects where you were one of many contributors. If you can't explain a major decision without saying "the team decided," find a different project. You need ownership over the technical strategy, not just the implementation.
