"Glue work" is the coordination, facilitation, and support that makes teams function. It's necessary but often undervalued. Staff+ engineers do glue work, but it can't be all you do.
Balance glue work with visible technical contributions. Document your impact. If you only do glue work, you'll be seen as a great teammate, not a technical leader. Both matter, but technical leadership is what defines Staff+.
