Um, uh, like, you know, basically. These filler words are verbal crutches that make you sound uncertain and junior. Everyone uses some fillers in casual conversation. But in interviews, they compound. "So, um, I'm basically going to, like, use a hash map here" sounds terrible compared to "I'll use a hash map here." The first step is awareness. Record yourself solving a problem out loud. Count your filler words. Most people are shocked by the number. You can't eliminate fillers by trying to speak faster or fill every gap. You eliminate them by replacing them with silence.
