Permutations of Multisets

(Identical items)

What if some items are identical? Example: arrange the letters of AABBCC.

If all 6 letters were distinct, you'd have 6! = 720 arrangements. But swapping the two A's doesn't create a new arrangement.

You need to divide out the duplicate arrangements caused by identical items.
